THE DREAM:

I don’t want to say something corny like, “Oh, I want to be happy…” I guess, like, as you can see, I’m in my 50s—you say this is about black life? I remember when black people, we were together; we were like this, black power. Now it’s divided; it’s all about money now, with our race. When in the meantime, I see other races getting closer and closer, whereas—you know, it’s like, I was making a comment the other day to a young person about the basketball game and I said, “Ah Lebron James, look at that. He just missed that shot. He’s having a bad game.” “Uh, well he’s a millionaire. You just work a regular job. He’s got money.” It’s got nothing to do with that. I am a sports fan. I enjoy him as an athlete, as a player. I don’t care about his money. He’s got his money; I’ve got my money. I don’t care; I don’t give a damn—excuse my language. So, It’s too much about money I would like to see black people come together and love, got each other’s back, help each other at work, at play... You know, bring some positiveness. And we need to learn to start trusting each other again. Get back to how it was in the 70s, in the 60s.

THE STRUGGLE:

The struggle I think is to see people be nicer to each other, I think. I mean, human kindness. A smile. People don’t understand that a smile will make somebody’s day. A smile from a stranger. You know, just basic human kindness: Hello, goodbye, excuse me… And it’s a struggle to get that. You don’t see it everyday. People don’t talk to each other. People just stare at their phones, basically. It’s getting worse.

WHAT I DO:

Well, I’m a city government worker in San Francisco. I’m gonna probably be retiring in about two or three years. Looking forward to playing golf and traveling…

       PoB: Just visiting New York?

Just visiting New York. First time.

       PoB: What are your thoughts?

I love New York. It’s exciting. Everything I’ve read about in books and seen on television and movies is right here.

PoB: So this is where you’re going to retire to?

I’m not going to retire here. I need a place a little more restful to retire to.

WHY I DO:

Because you gotta live your life. Every moment is precious; every day is precious. People are transitioning everyday. It doesn’t matter how old you are, how young you are. So you have to enjoy every moment and live your life.

OPEN MIC:

I love New York!
